What We Often Forget When It Comes to Retirement

The last thing we want to think about is the possibility of future care as adults.

When I meet with my clients and we have the discussion of long-term care their least favorite thing to talk about is care related to eating, bathing, chores around the house, and day to day needs. It is hard topic to face and a shame it is this way because a 2015 Medicare study shows 70% of adults over the age of 65 will need long-term service eventually in their life. It is important to have that conversation with family members and your financial service team, so you are prepared emotionally and financially. One thing we urge you to do is become educated on this topic. Knowing the type of program your loved one enters beforehand is principal so you can ensure they are taken care of properly. After educating yourself its important to understand all your possible aids, estate planning documents, finances, and have every formal structure set up. There aren’t as many as there used to be when it comes to insurance carriers to choose from that participate in long-term care service. The options can vary, and it is important to know those differences. Some of the life insurance policies have benefits included and others do not. When it comes to your loved ones or you do your due diligence so you can find the best plan. We encourage you to ask questions and hope you feel motivated to have the conversation on long-term care service.
